Lietkabelis makes history, forces Zalgiris to the first semifinal elimination ever
For the first time in the history of Betsafe-LKL, Zalgiris Kaunas will not play in the final. Defending champions suffers shock semifinal elimination as Lietkabelis heads to historic final series against Rytas Vilnius.
An intense game came down the wire and Lietkabelis emerged victorious on the road 73-69 to win the Game 3 behind a stellar performance by Panagiotis Kalaitzakis who scored 18 points. Kaunas team blew double-digit lead and Janis Strelnieks efforts (15 points) were not enough to bounce back.
Lietkabelis struggled in the first minutes of Game 4, but managed to get an 86-75 victory and eliminate Zalgiris 3-1. Nenad Čanak squad had everything under control since the end of the second quarter and prevailed until the end. Gediminas Orelik banked 19 points as the top scorer while Dovydas Giedraitis helped out with 12 points.
Rytas took down Siauliai-7bet in the semifinals and won the series 3-1. Giedrius Žibėnas squad dominated Game 3 and grabbed a 94-79 win behind a solid performance by Kenneth Smith and Gytis Radzevičius who scored 17 points each. Isaiah Armwood had 23 points for a losing side.
Rytas qualified to the finals by beating Siauliai team 87-77 in the Game 4 on the road. Hosts were up by 9 points in the first quarter until Rytas took control in the second one. Kenneth Smith finished with game-high 21 points and 6 rebounds while Arnas Butkevičius and Ivan Buva scored 12 points each. Issuf Sanon had 16 points for Siauliai-7bet.
