King Mindaugas Cup

History

A basketball tournament that captures ones imagination. A tournament King Mindaugas would be proud of himself.

First organized in Vilnius in 2016, the King Mindaugas Cup came into being after the previously separately held LKF Cup and the LKL All-Star Day were merged into one major event.

The Lithuanian capital was enchanted with the world-class spectacle featuring top level basketball, the traditional three-point and dunk contests, as well as across-the-board entertainment with performances by top Lithuanian artists.

It received the Sports Event of the Year award in 2016.

Lietuvos Rytas became the first team to lift the King Mindaugas Cup, defeating their archrivals Zalgiris 67-57 in the Final of the inaugural event.

The tournament was held in Kaunas in 2017 and luck was once again with the local team, as Zalgiris claimed the trophy after an 84-63 triumph over Lietkabelis.

The third edition of the event, the King Mindaugas Cup, took place in Klaipeda and Zalgiris won the title beating Lietuvos Rytas 81-62.

A year later in 2019, Rytas recaptured the trophy as the hosts of the Final Four in Vilnius with a 70-67 triumph over Zalgiris.
