Žalgiris dominates Lietkabelis to win the Citadele KMT cup by a record margin
For the fifth time in the club’s history and for the third time in a row, Žalgiris Kaunas is crowned Citadele King Mindaugas Cup (Citadele KMT) winner.
Žalgiris never trailed on the way to the 91:66 victory versus Lietkabelis Panevėžys. This is the largest margin in a KMT final ever. Building on a fast start and retaining a commanding lead over 40 minutes, Žalgiris routed Lietkabelis to win their first KMT cup final in Vilnius.
Last two times, in 2016 and 2019, Žalgiris lost the finals against Rytas Vilnius. Joshua Nebo poured a game-high 25 points, while Žalgiris star Joffrey Lauverne added 19 points and 8 rebounds.
Frenchman was named Final Four MVP for the second year in a row. Three-time MVP Edgaras Ulanovas scored 13 points.
Lietkabelis captain Vytenis Lipkevičius posted a team-high 14 points and 5 rebounds against his former team. Kaspars Berzins followed with 13 and Gabrielius Maldūnas with 11 points.
Žalgiris received 40 000 EUR along with the winners trophy, while Lietkabelis received a 25 000 EUR for a second place. Rytas, who finished third, received 15 000 EUR, and Šiauliai-7bet, who finished fourth, received 10 000 EUR.
In a third-place match Rytas defeated Šiauliai-7bet 76:71.
