Crucial match left no team undefeated

This weekend of Betsafe LKL brought us two top-notch battles and one of them was crucial in battle for the first place in the standings.

Saturday match of Juventus Utena and Lietkabelis Panevezys ended up as a thriller. Juventus and Lietkabelis battled toe to toe the whole game at Utena. Both teams knew that third place is at stake in this game.

Some crucial plays by Kyle Vinales helped Lietkabelis survive in Utena with a win 78:76.

Lietkabelis are now 3rd and Juventus are now in the mix with Nevezis Kedainiai and CBet Prienai in 4-6th places.

On Sunday CBet also won against against Dzukija Alytus (81:74) and Nevezis did not break a sweat against Siauliai (96:77).

The biggest question of this weekend was of course the biggest Lithuanian rivalry between Rytas Vilnius and Zalgiris Kaunas.

Rytas are shouting their ambitions loud this season and are letting their opponents know that their champion position might be compromised. Game at Vilnius was the first meeting between these two teams this season.

A thriving start 7:22 could have hinted that Rytas are the better team but this was the wake up call Zalgiris needed.

Marius Grigonis, Lukas Lekavicius and Joffrey Lauvergne were headaches for Rytas coach Donaldas Kairys. Also in the second half Rytas offense was completely shut down by silly foul trouble and fantastic defensive efforts from Zalgiris.

First derby ended by Zalgiris away victory 84:72.

Rytas now has only one win more than Zalgiris but Kaunas club still has a game in hand. If all goes well, Zalgiris now has the upper hand in the standings because of this win.

Betsafe LKL action returns on Friday. Lietkabelis Panevezys will host Dzukija Alytus. Also more matches will take place on Saturday as usual.
