Eleven rounds are now played in the Betsafe-LKL. Together with Scorestars, our fantasy basketball league gaming app, we are bringing you the key moments of the week.

All true Lithuanian basketball fans knew that the 11th round would bring us the long-waited derby, but it wasn’t the only thrilling game worth watching. The week started in Kėdainiai where Nevėžis-Optibet played against M Basket-Delamode Mažeikiai. It was an important game for both as the two didn’t start the Betsafe-LKL season as well as they would have wanted. Before the game, both teams had only one win from their 10 games this season. Tension in the air, the game went off and the home side took a quick lead by winning the first quarter by 19 points (53-34). Nevėžis–Optibet didn’t hold back from there and pushed strongly to win the game 93-87. The second win for the black-and-white team was dictated by Joseph Girard (27 points, 3 assists, 22 efficiency rating) and Ignas Vaitkus (23 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 26 efficiency rating). From M Basket-Delamode, Chauncey Collins (23 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 23 efficiency rating), Kay Bruhnke (17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 25 efficiency rating), and the new signing Sukhmail Mathon (15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 23 efficiency rating) were the three players trying to walk home with the second win this season but unfortunately it wasn’t enough.

In the second game on Saturday night, 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevėžys faced Šiauliai-Casino Admiral. Even though Šiauliai-Casino Admiral scored 31 points in the last quarter, the home side took a relatively easy win 93-76. Whilst 7bet-Lietkabelis just displayed a great team performance and none of their players stood out from the crowd, Gerry Blakes (22 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 23 efficiency rating) from Šiauliai-Casino Admiral, made another great performance.

The third and final game of the day was played in Vilnius where the local Wolves Twinsbet went against Neptūnas. Wolves Twinsbet pushed the pedal from the first quarter as they scored 36 points (!) and it seemed like Neptūnas couldn’t relive the shock. During the third quarter, Neptūnas only scored 7 points and the game seemed to be over. Yet, the fourth quarter was a true basketball show and can be compared to Harlem Globetrotters performance. Neptūnas scored 40 (!!) points during the fourth quarter versus 20 for Wolves Twinsbet. Final score 102-86 for Wolves Twinsbet. Anthony Cowan (14 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, 22 efficiency rating) from Wolves Twinsbet and Desure Buie (17 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 steals, 19 efficiency rating) were the two players who performed the best in the game.

Sunday afternoon. Over 13,000 basketball fans had gathered to the Žalgirio Arena and hundreds of thousands watching from home as Žalgiris Kaunas was about to play the current Betsafe-LKL champion Rytas Vilnius. True derby was about to roll out. Game on! Rytas Vilnius stayed ahead after the first quarter. Žalgiris took a 7-point lead to go to the half-time break. The third and fourth quarters were almost even but still belonged to Žalgiris. Total score 78-67 for 24-time Lithuanian champions. The two forwards, Ignas Brazdeikis and Alen Smailagic both made a 25-efficiency game for Žalgiris.

The last game of the weekend and the 11th round of the Betsafe-LKL was played at the Jonavos Sports Arena. The local team, CBet Jonava played with Uniclub Bet-Juventus Utena. The close game belonged to the home team, final score 93-98. For the hosts, Erikas Venskus had a 32-efficiency game (27 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal). From the Uniclub Bet-Juventus, Dominic Green made another standout game (26 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 27 efficiency rating), which led his team to the sixth victory this season.
