Vilnius derby in the semifinal, 7bet-Lietkabelis wins decisive OT thriller to face Žalgiris

As Betsafe-LKL playoffs have gone past the first round, LKL.lt together with Scorestars presents you with an overview of all four quarterfinals series.

Žalgiris Kaunas and Rytas Vilnius swept M Basket-Delamode Mažeikiai and CBet Jonava respectively. Even though the outsiders managed to have some good runs, it wasn’t enough to pull off at least one victory as both series ended 2:0 in favor of the last season’s finalists.

It wasn’t the deal with the other two series. Uniclub Casino – Juventus Utena and 7bet-Lietkabelis went to the last bit of their effort to find themselves in a decisive game 3 overtime. Scoochie Smith gave his team 1­-point lead with 13 seconds to go but Gabrielius Maldūnas managed to tip-in the ball after Deividas Sirvydis missed a layup to win 100-99 and advance to the semifinal for the eighth year in a row despite not having the home court advantage.

Wolves Twinsbet and Neptūnas Klaipėda also fought until the very end but it was the home team this time who advanced to the next stage of Betsafe-LKL playoffs. Wolves Twinsbet won 91-80.

In the semifinal round Žalgiris will fight 7bet-Lietkabelis and Rytas will face Wolves Twinsbet in a Vilnius derby themed series. This time it will be best-of-five series to find out who will advance to the finals.
