Zalgiris overcomes tough challenge against Neptunas to complete semifinals field
Betsafe-LKL semifinals picture is set. Regular season winners Rytas Vilnius will face Siauliai-7bet while defending champions Zalgiris Kaunas will fight against Lietkabelis Panevezys.
Five Neptunas Klaipeda players scored in double figures as Dainius Adomaitis squad defeated Zalgiris Kaunas 87 – 78 to force the only game 5 in the Betsafe-LKL quartefinals. Nojus Mineikis sank six three-pointers to set his season-high at 23 points, Matas Jogėla added 19, Deividas Gailius – 18, Benas Griciūnas – 12, Edgaras Želionis – 11 points. Lukas Lekavičius scored 19 points for Žalgiris.
However, Zalgiris dominated game 5 to punch the last available ticket of the Betsafe-LKL semifinals. The team coached by Kazys Maksvytis won the third quarter by 16 points and rallied to defeat Neptunas 89-60. Niels Giffey poured a team-high 15 points, Tyler Cavanaugh logged 14 points. Tai Webster and Josh Nebo packed 11 points each completing the double-digit scoring pack.
Earlier, Rytas Vilnius got the job done, getting a convincing 92-66 win over Dzukija Alytus and advancing to the semifinals. Ivan Buva led the way with 19 points in 17 minutes with Jarvis Williams adding 15 points. Gytis Radzevičius scored 12 while Justas Furmanavičius had a team-high 13 points for Dzukija.
Siauliai-7bet beat CBet Jonava 79-65 in game 4 of their quartefinals to win the series 3-1 and advance to the Betsafe-LKL semifinals for the first time in 10 years. Eimantas Stankevičius had 18 points, Giedrius Staniulis finished with 16 points plus 8 rebounds while Jeffery Garrett posted 16 points and 12 rebounds for Jonava team.
