Zalgiris retains top Lithuanian prospect, Rokas Jokubaitis, on a multi-year deal
One of the most talented young players in Lithuania, Rokas Jokubaitis has agreed on a long-term contract extension with Zalgiris. The Lithuanian champions and the 18-year-old have signed a three-year deal.
The youngster gained coach Jasikevicius’ trust last season and already had the chance to showcase himself on the national front, but also had some playing time in the EuroLeague. Playing in the Betsafe-LKL, the point guard averaged 4.3 points and 1.5 assists in 11 minutes of action.
Jokubaitis earned the Best Young Player honors playing in the NKL last season, as he averaged 13.2 points, 5.2 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 17.3 ranking points over the course of the season.
Zalgiris Sports Director Robertas Javtokas was ecstatic to retain one of the top European prospects.
“Although Rokas just recently turned 18, his understanding of the game and strong work ethic matches those of the players of the highest caliber. He is not only one of the hottest Lithuanian basketball prospects, but also of the most talented guards in European basketball. It was an important goal and a priority for us to retain him. We’re delighted Rokas is happy with the conditions provided and with this long term agreement, he’s shown confidence in us.”
