The defending Betsafe LKL champions Zalgiris began their title defense on a positive note, blowing out Pieno Zvaigzdes with a 103-66 scoreline in the opening game of the season on Saturday.
After an evenly-matched first quarter, the Kaunas club broke away to a double-digit lead after outscoring the visitors 27-15 in the second period. The margin got out of hand following the intermission, with Zalgiris holding Pieno Zvaigzdes to 31 points in the second half.
Edgaras Ulanovas led the home team's well-rounded scoring with 17 points, team captain Paulius Jankunas collected 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Brandon Davies and Aaron White chipped in with 13 and 12 points, respectively
Veteran swingman Gytis Sirutavicius was the only player in double figures for Pieno Zvaigzdes with 11 points, with Eric McClellan next in line with 9 points next to his name on the score sheet.
